South Africa SUD Resource Directory
Developed by South Africa ITTC
Published on 12/21/2023
This resource allows users to find the nearest treatment facility through an easy-to access google-maps based interface, with the ability to search for the nearest resource either by 1) typing an address, 2) zooming in on the map, or 3) allowing the map to determine where the user is and then indicating the nearest resource, while also indicating what services are provided at the facility and how to make contact.
The resource directory will be linked at the end of the Web App Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST), as well as on the web page of the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health, amongst other sites. It will be maintained every 6 months through cooperation with National Department of Social Development.
Further expansion of the tool over the next couple of months with include:
- Details of health care centres providing care for substance use disorders
- Details of practitioners providing services for substance use disorders
- Details of additional parallel services as may be of value to the SUD treatment space
Future expansion over the coming year of two will include:
- Indication of Quality Assurance status, a project in collaboration with SAMRC and National DSD
- Indication of registration status
- Indication of occupancy (potentially), to allow passive flow of info to National DSD. This info may not be public-facing
