Why We Lead: Understanding and Supporting the Leadership of AANHPI Girls and Gender Expansive Youth - Report and Youth-Led Policy Recommendations

This report, through Girls Leadership, Evaluation Studio, and the Girl's Leadership Youth Research Council (YRC), examines leadership aspirations among Asian-American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander girls and gender expansive youth, as well as the challenges they face, especially in relation to their race/ethnicity and/or gender identity. The authors conducted a national survey of 2,275 youth participants, 30 in-depth interviews, photovoice submissions, and discussions with 30+ AANHPI-serving community-based organizations, as well as a national survey of 500 teachers.

As a follow up to this report, the Youth Research Council put together a list of six policy recommendations for policymakers and educators to better support leadership potential among AANHPI youth.

Youth Research Council authors include Yehji Hwang, Momoca Mairaj, Ruksana Ruhee, Nikita Jadhav, Lou Cariello.
